How to Style Your Family’s Lifestyle Session
When it comes to choosing outfits for your family’s in-home lifestyle session, there are a few things I want you to keep in mind:
- YOUR HOME. Be sure to take into consideration the tones in your home! Since your home will be the backdrop of your images, we want to ensure that your outfits do not clash with the elements in your home – from the colors on the walls, floors, cabinets, and backsplash – to decor, art pieces hanging on the wall, or pillows and bedding!
- DON’T BE AFRAID OF ALL NEUTRALS. In fact, clothing your family in different shades of neutral colors helps to eliminate distractions and bring focus back to the sweet interactions between your family. I want you to think less about adding COLOR to your outfits, and more about adding a variety of clothing styles (i.e. rompers, dresses, overalls, etc.), subtle patterns, and different textures that will bring the visual interest you’re looking for!
- SIMPLE IS ALWAYS BEST. In conclusion, choose outfits that are simple, light in color, solids or subtle in pattern, and don’t clash with your home/decor as to not be distracting in the overall images. The goal of an in-home session should be to capture the genuine love and connection within your family!
Tips for Postpartum Moms
Yay! You just brought your sweet little baby home! More than likely you’ll be living in comfortable clothes for the next few weeks, so let’s do our best to make you feel your best for this session! Here’s a few things to keep in mind when it comes to deciding what to wear for your in-home or studio session:
- CHOOSE YOUR OUTFIT FIRST. We want to ensure that YOU are comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing – then everyone else will be coordinated to you!
- CHOOSE CLOTHING THAT IS NURSING FRIENDLY. Your baby may want to nurse during your session, so dressing appropriately will save time and frustration when he/she needs to eat.
- KEEP YOUR RECOVERY IN MIND. If you have a c-section, be sure to wear something that will still be comfortable on your incision, especially when you are sitting. I find that majority of moms feel most comfortable wearing a long, flowy dress – and I find they usually photograph more beautifully too!
- FIGHT THE POSTPARTUM BLUES. Choosing flattering silhouettes and colors that complement your natural features is the best way to ensure you’ll love the way you look in your photos! But remember, no matter how you’re feeling, you’re an incredible and beautiful mama!
